Prepare for 2013.. !!! Earth may stand still...

Just recently, I was laughing watching 2012 movie and was so sure that it would not happen this soon. After all, similar warnings were made over the Y2K bug, the massive worldwide computer glitch, that seemed to be overblown. But just yesterday, I happened to watch this telecasted on television and I realize there might be a serious threat.

In 2013, the earth will be attacked from space, with one possible outcome being mind-bogglingly severe disruption to our tech-centric way of life.

"The sun is waking up from a deep slumber, and in the next few years, we expect to see much higher levels of solar activity," says Richard Fisher, head of NASA's Heliophysics Division. "At the same time, our technological society has developed an unprecedented sensitivity to solar storms."

Solar flares are explosion on the surface of the sun which is caused by the release of the magnetic energy that has built-up in the sun's atmosphere. The coronal mass ejection could release large amounts of matter, intense magnetic fields and other radiations into space which may trigger global chaos by causing blackouts and wrecking satellite communications.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFN4iXLC490

Such kind of explosion was last seen in 1859 which did have lot of effects on the Earth. The explosion might be less harmful if it is not directly radiated to the Earth. In pre-electronic and barely electrical 1859, a "perfect space storm" shorted out telegraph lines in the US and Europe, causing numerous fires. It also made the Northern Lights visible as far south as Rome, Havana and Hawaii, according to NASA — contemporary accounts relate how a group of campers in the Rocky Mountains were awakened by an "auroral light, so bright that one could easily read common print. Some of the party insisted that it was daylight and began the preparation of breakfast."

The earth has been battered by solar storms before, but never has civilization been so vulnerable, since it's now so dependent upon both electrical and electronic infrastructure.

So, lets wait and watch !!!

Who says we can't host CWG???

If you want to kill a tree, don’t cut it, just curse it! The same seems to be happening with CWG.

Friends, successful completion of CWG is a must for INDIA’s image….there has been so much negative publicity about it….let’s support the games now, and for sure it doesn’t mean that we support the corruption involved with it!!!!

FACE behind the HAND

Handwriting reflects our personality. Discovering personality types in handwriting can be helpful in all walks of life. Have you ever wanted to analyze handwriting?

About 5 - 6 years back, one of my college-mate, who was a professional graphologist, wrote two pages about me and surprisingly, every word that she wrote about me was so true! From then, I always wanted to learn to do it. And she taught me a few things which I want to share with all of you. I hope this is useful. Go ahead and learn it..!!!

First thing you can notice in a handwriting is, SIZE of the writing - indicates the writer's desire to be noticed. When we look at someone's attire, we assume someone wearing very bold colors wants to be noticed more than someone in neutral tones. Their clothing reveals an aspect of their personality. Well in handwriting, large bold writing typically indicates "notice me"! Medium sized writing indicates a desire to fit in. Smaller writing indicates less of a desire to be noticed.

Large Font :
Likes being noticed, stands out in a crowd.
Broad perspective, ego driven, makes an impression, bold, extrovert.

Medium font:
Adaptable, fits into the crowd.
Practical, realistic, works well with others.

Small font:
Introspective, not seeking attention.
Modest, pays attention to details, good concentration, humble.

Very small font:
Private, stays out of lime light.
Introvert, precise, can be selective.

ANGLE

Strong right:
Impulsive, needs to relate to others.
Spontaneous, enthusiastic, depends on others, emotions rule.

Right:
Sociable,responsive,interested in others.
Good coping ability, extrovert, friendly, future directed.

Vertical:
Practical,independent,head rules over heart.
Self sufficient, controlled, restrained, low emotional responses.
Left:
Socially cautious, reserved, observant.
Good listener, self - reliant.
Varying:
Ambivalent, moods vary.
Unpredictable, self-conflict, changing behavior.

Baseline

An important factor in judging the writer's emotional stability and disposition is the baseline of the writing. On unlined paper, the baseline is assumed by the writer. However, even on lined paper the writer does not always adhere to the line provided. The baseline changes based on the immediate mood of the writer and can vary from day to day or moment to moment. Because of this, any interpretation derived from baseline should be prefaced by the phrase "at this time".

Normally straight:
Determined, stays on track.
Self motivated, reliable,steady.

Ascending:
Optimistic, positive attitude.
Ambitious, can-do attitude.

Descending:
Tired, pessimistic.
No hopes, more chances for failure than success.

Variable:
Wavering, lacks definite direction..
Emotionally unstressed, indecisive, may have trouble achieving goals.

Few other things :

Well-connected?
  • When letters within words are joined up it can denote logical and ordered thinking, use of experience more than imagination, consistency and lucidity in conversation.
  • When letters within words are disconnected it can demonstrate strong intuition, original thinking, impulsiveness and creativity.
Loops?
  • Upper loops in the letters : Tall upper loops means he is all talk but no action. Short upper loops mean she is all about getting things done.
  • Lower loops in the letters: If the lower loop is small, then this person says what he feels. If the lower loops are larger, than she is full of energy.

The personal pronoun 'I' a very important letter.

When the 'I' is printed with a line at the top and bottom the writer sets perimeters on themselves. They know how far their ambitions can go; they know what they can do with what they have.

Straight line for an 'I' : is aware of own capabilities, is matter of fact. These people are also intellectual and sometimes blunt as their attitude is 'the truth is the truth' so why not speak it like it is.
Any 'I' that is crossed like an 'I' that looks like a 'Z' or an 'I' that has a big loop at the top and it crosses over the line of the "I'. The writer should try to change this writing as every time you write the letter 'I' with a cross through it you are subconsciously crossing yourself out. The subconscious action can be due to a guilt you have, due to insecurity; due to you cannot face what you have done or are doing. But, whatever it is try and change that stroke it is an indication you do not like yourself in some areas.

Well these are a very few things I have learnt. This information will definitely not make anyone a pro in Graphology
.. :D Its just the beginning .. Will share more when i learn more.. :) Signing off here.. Hope it was informative.

Traffic in the dream city

Namma Bengaluru - Yes, a dream city !!! Its a very special place with lovely climatic conditions and topology. Needless to say, when there is more publicity, development of infrastructure, more educational facilities and job opportunities and various other indirect factors, there is migration of population and hence the weight on the road, and traffic is caused.

Of late , the
silicon city has witnessed tremendous development and growth. The effect is quite visible. Earlier in Bengaluru, I never have seen such a wild and congested traffic. Every possible roads are congested. In nut shell, it is quite logical to say that there has been very less development that took place in roadways, traffic system etc compared to the development that took place in other sectors like industries , establishment of various research & software design centre, aerospace, telecommunication, defense organizations etc.

But is this the only cause for traffic? Of Course not. People should understand that all the major cities in the country or say major metros all over the world face similar problems. Blaming the city and the police would do no good. There are many other reasons too. Most importantly, the citizens of Bengaluru. I don't think we can count the number of people disobeying the traffic rules every minute. There is no strict lane maintainance in the city. I must mention - Auto and cab drivers are first among them.

Time is Not far away when the people of Bangalore will have to face all sorts of traffic problem. One must follow the traffic signals not just for your own safety, but for everyone's convenience too.

One more incidence worth mentioning in this context. Recently, I was stuck in traffic near Lalbagh. The traffic was moving one foot every 5 minutes!!! But I must say, i dint get bored at all. Thanks to BBMP for beautiful paintings on the walls. It took me a lot of time to reach the next signal. I was happy I would clear the next "GREEN" signal but for my bad luck, an auto driver trying to change the lane hit a car in front of me ! Ufff.. There was a big chaos. It was a horrible experience that day. The car and the auto drivers fighting in the middle of the road, many people unnecessarily involving in the argument, all vehicles behind them honking continuously, and finally, there comes the traffic police. It was really good to have him there. The traffic got cleared in just 5 minutes.

All these unnecessarily increase the existing traffic congestion. These things I feel, can really help decrease the congestion -
1. Most important, Lane maintainance.
2. Traffic rules must be obeyed no matter what.
3. Don't ever avoid a "ONE WAY" sign.
4. Do not park your vehicles in "NO PARKING" zone or in places which would reduce the lane width for the other vehicles.

With the coming of Namma Metro a lot of these issues must be solved. Citizens should make use of public transport when ever possible. It’s the best way to avoid being in pollution and in turn we can help to reduce pollution.

I must mention this. Just recently, I was stuck in a traffic signal near RajBhavan for about 15 minutes. All the lanes had "RED" signal and I was wondering why, when I just saw a few minister cars pass by. The cars just crossed the signal in a minute when the rest of the public have been waiting still for 15 minutes !

IS IT JUSTIFIABLE ?

Why can't the same thing be done to the ambulance instead ??? It might save a life!

I hope the government takes necessary actions to evaluate the development of Bangalore city and the steps required to take to meet the growing demands of the population. Moreover, to make the Bangalore city redefined and reshaped to face the challenge of new emerging hi-tech metro city of India :-) I hope I see the day when we can say road rage is obsolete word in this city traffic. I hope my dream and every one’s dream of turning our Beautiful Bengaluru into an ultra modern world Class City for its inhabitants will come true very soon.

Stop worrying... Start living.. !!!!

Of course, all of us worry about different things in life.. May be about something small or something really big.. Do you worry that you worry about being too worried??? If u worry so much about future, what about the present?

Worries are usually about - what's gonna happen in the future. Why should you think so much about future when our lives are so uncertain. Who knows what's gonna happen tomorrow !!! Future is definitely not in our control. But , the present is.. What we have to do is - Live in the MOMENT. Have fun. Take everything easy.. Every problem will have a solution and everything happens for good. We just must have patience and not let go our confidence.
Maybe you need to learn to be comfortable with risk.

Many of the worries we have may be related to past. Like a heartbreak, or injuries, it haunts us and we want to do everything in our power from preventing it from happening again. But what's the use of brooding over what has already happened. We just need to get the past off our head and live to the fullest in the present.

Of course, it doesn't seem as easy as i'm saying. But, trust me, U can make it easy..
Certain things I feel will make you relaxed and divert your mind from worries -

Firstly, Just don't think too much. Of course you need to think before you act, but don't think too much. Just take the first step and go for it.

Secondly,Spend time with yourself. I find this saying very true- "An idle mind is a devil's workshop". Take up activities to keep busy.Anything that preoccupies you and precludes worrying will be good for you, as long as you don't become addicted to it for that very purpose.

Thirdly,Spend time with friends and family. Whatever you worried about, they could help you out and make you stop thinking about it.

Fourthly and most importantly, Move on. Sure, you could always do more, like anticipating every possible outcome and taking every possible step to prevent each unwanted outcome from happening, but you'll spend your life preventing bad things from happening rather than enjoying the good things that have already happened. And you won't even be able to stop all bad things from happening, anyway!

Every time you think “someday” or “when I have time I will,” stop. Ask yourself, “Why not now?” Think about this sentence, “I always wanted to, but never did.” Start doing the things you always planned to do. Choose your life every morning.

A poster in my room says - After every sad day, comes a glad day.. So, Keep smiling.. !!!
I find this quote really nice.

Past is history, future is mystery but "today" is a gift. That is why it is called "present".

STOP WORRYING AND START LIVING !!!

One thing I just Luv to do :)

About 5 years back, Vinni, maddy, shreyu , sham, deepu, ashi and kuku had been to Sunny's house for the pastry preparation demo from his mom. I missed it as I had to attend my practical exam :( From then, Vinni and shreyu started off preparing pastries and experimenting on us.. lolll!!! I was least interested to learn the procedure.. I would just enjoy the pastries what they made. Maximum I would do was just help them with small small things.. I was never used to even entering the kitchen.

One fine day, I finally made up my mind to try it out all by myself. I'd watched these guys prepare pastry quite a couple of times. I called up Vinni and confirmed the procedure. And I finally started off to prepare my first pastry, the day before my brother's b'day. Wanted to give him a surprise. Believe me it needs hell lot of patience to do it all by yourself!!!I had a tough time that day!!! My first black forest pastry took me about 6 hours.. ufff.. !!! It was not bad at all.. :) It gave me little confidence and from then, not only pastries but i started cooking every dish possible.. !!! It was quite hard to believe myself.. And preparing pastry kind of became my hobby and it was soooooo much in demand that few of my frnz were suggesting me not to look for a technical job after engineering but start a small home-made pastry shop.. hehheee..

One sad thing is that, its been about 10 months since i prepared a pastry. And I really curse my professional life for this :( Cuz pastry takes almost half my day and on weekends, I'm so busy with family and friends that I'm not finding time for it. Have to do something about it.

These are very few of the pastries I've made :) and Vinni will kill me if i don't mention - "The pastry which was made for sham had Vinni's efforts more than mine" .. loll... !!!

Preparing pastry is quite simple.. But needs hell lot of patience :)

PASTRY RECEIPE:

Ingredients:

7eggs,

500g powdered sugar,

160g maida flour,

Vanilla essence,

Strawberry essence for strawberry pastry/pineapple essence for pineapple pastry/chocolate essence for chocolate pastry,

Strawberry fruit for strawberry pastry/pineapple fruit for pineapple pastry/40g cocoa powder and 40g drinking chocolate for chocolate pastry

2 packets fresh cream

How to prepare:

1. Break 7 eggs into a big vessel (atleast 4 liters capacity) without separating white and the yolk.

2. Add one spoon of vanilla essence and one spoon of Strawberry essence for strawberry pastry/pineapple essence for pineapple pastry/chocolate essence for chocolate pastry.

3. Add 250g of finely powdered sugar.

4. Beat the above mixture using an electric beater for 30-40 mins, until the mixture becomes thick (manual beater takes more than 2 hrs!). Keep the mixture covered.

5. Take 160g sieved maida flour in a bowl. [For chocolate/black forest pastry, add 160g of sieved maida + 40g cocoa powder+ 40g drinking chocolate]. Add maida mixture (ONE spoon at a time) to the beaten egg mixture and mix it really well in ONE DIRECTION ONLY, without forming lumps. (This requires lotttt of patience and it takes atleast an hour!)

6. Grease 10liters pressure cooker with 2 spoons of ghee and sprinkle maida flour. Make sure maida is spread properly, otherwise it will be difficult to take out the cake from cooker.

[If using microwave, grease a vessel with ghee and maida. Make sure the vessel has atleast 15cm radius and 20-25cm height]

7. Pour the mixture into the cooker. Cover the cooker with a plate (DO NOT USE cooker lid) and simmer it for 30 mins (until the edges of the cake leave the cooker sides).

[If using microwave, bake the cake for 10 mins]

8. Leave the cooker/ vessel to cool down.

9. Meanwhile boil finely chopped strawberry pieces for strawberry pastry/pineapple pieces for pineapple pastry, in 200g of water. Add 10 spoons of sugar and boil for 5 mins.[For chocolate pastry, just boil the sugar water]. Separate the fruit and water. Allow both to cool and keep it in fridge.

10. Take the fresh cream in a vessel and add 10 spoons of sugar powder. Beat in all direction for 10 mins, UNTIL IT IS SLIGHTLY THICK. [TAKE CARE WHILE BEATING AS THE CREAM MAY TURN BUTTER IF YOU BEAT IT TOO MUCH!]

11. Take out the cake from the cooker/vessel using a knife, slowly.

12. Cut the cake horizontally into two halves using a knife. And keep them seperate

13. For the lower half, sprinkle 150g of water(which was kept in the fridge)

14. Spread the cream evenly and sprinkle the fruits /chocolate pieces for chocolate pastry on it.

15. Place the upper half of cake on this.Sprinkle the remaining water on this.

16. Spread the cream evenly on top and on sides.

17. Decorate with cherries/chocolates/fruits/dry fruits. Anything can be written on the pastry with chocolate sauce.

Are we really Independent ????

63 years! Have you ever tried to find the meaning of independence? Many of us assume we attained our independence in 1947!

Are we really independent?

Well that depends. A country cannot be independent till it can freely express its opinion and act based on its national and strategic interests.
Then tell me what will make you happy to call India an independent nation? First, we must be a self-sustaining nation with least dependency on foreign culture, money, power and influence. Let us start with

culture – are we not eager to shed our “ego and parampara” and embrace the Americanism for money and status symbol?

Money – isn’t our national reserve dependent on how much foreign money comes through foreign institutional investments? Let us take

power – did we not withdraw from Kashmir border on insistence of America? Did we not settle in Kargil and not cross the LOC because of what the super powers will do in United Nation? Are we not compromising with China to keep America and Pakistan in check? Well you will say this is part of diplomacy!

Influence – Whom do we influence?

So are we really independent? Let me tell you “yes” – we are independent according to the definition’s minimum benchmark. We have an independent army, our people think that we are independent and we have an independent political system.

So when will you call India an independent nation?

Well first,India must be a member of the Security Council with full veto power.

Second
, her economy must not be dependent on any one else’s. The myth that outsourcing jobs may make India an economic superpower is bogus! India should make goods and services on her own and other countries should be eager to buy that!

Third, we should invest and research in alternative fuel. Like America, India is dependent on imported Petroleum and that has to go. India should move ahead and start using an alternative fuel and show the world that it is a leading super power.

Fourth, Indians do not need to leave their own country to earn some dollars or euros or yens. Indians must be proud to be in their nation contributing to mother India.

India is world famous for its diversity. Why aren't Indians trying to preserve this culture? Why are Indians constantly trying to adopt foreign culture?

Why are people constantly wanting to migrate to foreign countries to make money?

Why is there so much corruption in our government when government was made for the people, of the people and by the people?

Why is there so much of communal riots still?

That is why I say whether India is independent or not depends upon how you define independence and freedom!

Dream high !!!

“When you have come to the edge of all the light you have
And step into the darkness of the unknown
Believe that one of the two will happen to you
Either you'll find something solid to stand on
Or you'll be taught how to fly!”

Dont Ever Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, And the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest if you must But

DON'T QUIT.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
as everyone of us sometimes learns,
and many a failure turns about,
Don't give up though the pace seems slow, you may succeed with another blow.

Success
is failure turned inside out, the silver lining of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you are hardest hit..
.
It is when things seem worse that you must
"NOT QUIT"

(PS: Click on the picture to get the clarity a lil better)

The Civic history.. never knew civic was so old :)

Civic is one of my favorite cars.. Just cant stop myself from looking at every damn civic that passes by.. :-) Found this information on net and was surprised to know Civic is so old.. :)

First generation (1973–1979)

The first generation Honda Civic was introduced in 1972, but sold as a 1973 model. Equipped with a 1,169 cc (71.3 cu in) four-cylinder engine, the first generation Civic was designed to compete with American compact vehicles and offered features such as front power disc brakes and reclining vinyl bucket seats and AM radio. The Civic was available as a coupe, both a three and a five door hatchback, as well as a five door station wagon. Due to the 1973 oil crisis, demand for fuel efficient vehicles was high. The Civic's build quality matched its fuel economy, allowing it to succeed in the market.

Second generation (1980-1983)

Civic 5-door

The second generation Honda Civic was introduced in 1980. It was larger, had a more angular shape, and came with increased engine power. All Civic engines now used the CVCC design, which added a 3rd valve per cylinder; this introduced lean burn swirl technology. The base 1335 cc ("1300") engine made 55 hp (41 kW), with an optional 1488 cc ("1500") engine giving 67 hp (50 kW). Three transmissions were offered: a four-speed manual (on base models), a five-speed manual, and a two-speed semi-automatic that was unique to the industry.

Third generation (1984–1987)

European-spec third generation Honda Civic Shuttle (wagon)

The third generation was released in 1984. The separate five-door hatchback and wagon models were merged into a four-door "shuttle wagon." An additional two-seat coupe style—labeled CRX—was introduced, noted for its compact dimensions and light weight. The third generation Civic saw the introduction of the long running four-cylinder D series engine including a new 1.5 L (91.5 cu in) CVCC engine. 1984 also saw the release of a high-performance Si model for the Japanese market, featuring upgraded suspension and the 1.6 L (97.6 cu in) DOHC ZC engine which was rated at 130 PS. Si models were offered in the US as a 3-door Civic Si hatchaback and the CRX Si variant with a 91 horsepower (68 kW) fuel injected SOHC 12-valve engine. A 4WD model was introduced for the first time in 1984, and later upgraded in 1987.

Fourth generation (1988–1991) - EC/ED/EE/EF

1988 Civic LX sedan

For 1988 the Civic was redesigned again, with increased dimensions and a lower hood line. A wide range of models and trim levels were offered for various markets around the world. All US models featured electronic fuel injection, but carburated models were still available elsewhere. The fourth generation saw the introduction of a fully independent rear suspension across the entire model range.

Fifth generation (1992–1995) - EG, EH, EJ1/EJ2

Fifth-generation Civic sedan

Introduced in 1992, the redesigned Civic featured the usual increased dimensions as well as more aerodynamic styling. The wagon variant was now only available in the Japanese market where the previous generation wagon was carried over until 1995. The old HF model was brought back and renamed VX which was Honda's most fuel efficient model sold at the time. In North America the Si featured a SOHC VTEC valve train where as the VX featured VTEC-E and the Japanese Si featured a DOHC non-VTEC valve train D16A9. Continuing in the sporty tradition of the original Civic SiR, Honda sold several similarly equipped variants of the fifth generation car, still referred to as the Civic SiR, in Japan, Asia and Europe. The range of models encapsulated by the SiR nameplate grew to include the hatchback, sedan and CR-X Del Sol, all of which used a slightly evolved form of the Honda's 1.6 liter B16A DOHC VTEC engine, now yielding 160 horsepower (120 kW).

Sixth generation (1996–2000) - EK9, EK4, EK3, EJ6, EJ8, EJ9, EM1

1999-2000 Civic sedan (US)

1996-1998 Civic Hatchback

The sixth generation featured updated styling although less radical than previous redesigns. Suspension and engine options were similar to the previous generation but several new variants were introduced, including two distinct wagon models: the "Orthia" based on the standard Civic which was sold in the Japanese market and the Domani based wagon which was offered in the European market. It also saw the introduction of the Acura 1.6EL, an upscale version of the Civic introduced in the Canadian market. None of these models were offered in the US. Building on the success of the Japanese market-only Civic SiRII a Type-R model was offered for the first time, available in Asia and Europe only. The Honda Civic Type R featured major reductions in weight as well as improved engine output and a number of other changes and additions designed to improve performance. The North American market saw the introduction of an upgraded Civic Si (SiR in Canada) with a more powerful Dual Overhead Cam 1.6L VTEC engine. In 1998, in the United States, Honda introduced their first Natural Gas Powered Civic, the GX. In 1996-2000 they made the EX, DX, LX, HX, CX, Si; all base models were made with 1.6L engines. The EX-CX are all SOHC (D16) and the popular Si is a DOHC (B16A2).....HONDA UK saw the launch of MA MB MC 5 Door Civic / Civic Aerodeck. These featured improved handling with dual wishbone suspension at the front and independent rear suspension, ABS,PAS etc. These instantly became a big hit as a family car with a big boot and spacious interior and also as a motorway cruiser with ultra strong B18C4 engine on its flagship model MB6 and MC2.

Seventh generation (2001–2005) - EM2, ES1, EP3, EU1

2004 Honda Civic Ex

2001-2003 Honda Civic sedan (US)

The seventh generation was released in 2001. While the redesign retained the previous generation's exterior dimensions, interior space was improved in part by using a flat rear floor thus bumping up Civic to a compact car size segment. The front suspension was changed from that of a double wishbone to a MacPherson strut, in order to lower costs, as well as allow more engine bay room for the newly introduced Honda K-series engine. Power was also increased on some trim levels.

In North America, coupe and sedan body styles were available, except for the Si (SiR in Canada) which was offered only as a three-door hatchback.[9] The rest of the world received three and five-door hatchbacks. The Type-R was redesigned as well this time using a more powerful i-VTEC motor and using the three-door hatchback body style. This generation saw Honda introduce their first Civic Hybrid, powered by a 1.5 liter engine.[10]

Eighth generation (2006-2011) - FD2, FA1, FG1, FG2, FA5, FK, FN

US-spec Honda Civic LX sedan

European Honda Civic 5-door

For the 2006 generation Honda split the model into two different platforms, one primarily for the home market and North America and the other designed for the European market using a simpler rear suspension from the Honda Fit and more aggressive styling. Although the North American and the home market model differ externally, they are mechanically identical. The European model is available as a three and five-door hatchback while the Japanese/North American model is available as either sedan or coupe. Both Si and Type-R trim levels continue although the Japanese and European Type-R while sharing the same size engine are mechanically different. In the US an improved version of the Si tuned by Honda tuner Mugen is offered featuring cosmetic alterations and changes to the suspension and exhaust system. The Acura version of the Civic not only received the design change, but also saw a new nameplate, changing from the Acura EL to the Acura CSX.

In Europe this Civic has a 3 or 5 door hatch featuring a 1.4 VTEC, 1.8 VTEC (5.5–9 km/lite in city, 11.2–13.7 km/lite on highway), or 2.0l (Type-R) engines (5.5–8.1 km/lite in city, 8–10 km/lite on highway), as well as a powerful and economical 2.2 N22A i-CTDi diesel (140BHP) which does 0–60 km/h in 8.6 seconds and fuel economy is 38.3 MPG 10–12 km/lite in city and 11–14 km/lite on the highway. There is also a saloon version for the Hybrid, which has a 1.4 IMA engine giving 61MPG with 0–60 in 12.41 seconds. The Hybrid is the only Civic in the Europe that is a saloon.

2009 Facelift

For 2009, the Civic received a minor face lift, including a slight redesign to the front and rear. The exterior changes include a new honeycomb-designed grill in the front, as well as revised rims, with many more spokes than the original five-spoke rims, and a bar of chrome trim above the license plate area. The chrome strip where the Honda front logo is was also refined with sharper edges on both ends. The design for the area of the grill where the fog lights are placed was also slightly revised to include differing designs for Civic models with fog lights and those without. The interior changes included bluetooth compatibility and an optional leather wrapped steering wheel in the LX model. A sportier LX model was also added, called LX-S. This trim level adds a rear spoiler, chrome exhaust tip, and black sports seats.[11][12] The car retains many of its design cues and technical specifications from the pre-2009 model, including its 1.8 liter inline-4 engine and two-tier dashboard with a digital speedometer.

Ninth generation (2012-)

Honda is actively working on their 9th generation Honda Civic. Honda Civics of the past were always the leaders in being lightweight, compact size, and were inexpensive. This made them ideal for those who wanted to modify the car for performance. As the Honda Civics have been getting more and more advanced, so has their size, technology and weight.

Since the Honda Civic was getting heavier, and more expensive, Honda released the Fit to take its place as the lightweight inexpensive sibling. However, Honda has decided that in order to continue their dominance, they would need to revamp the Honda Civic, and the Honda Product Chief, Tsuneo Tanai ordered a complete revamp of the Honda Civic. Tanai ordered his engineers and designers to redesign the 9th gen Civic to be smaller, cheaper, lighter and more fuel efficient.

Anticipated availability of the 2012 Honda Civic is early summer 2011.

International marketing and platform derivatives

The 2008 Civic LXS Flex is sold in Brazil with a flex-fuel engine capable of running on either gasoline or ethanol or any blend of both.

While the Civic is sold in largely the same form worldwide, differences in the name of the models exist between markets. In Japan, the hatchback Civic is just called "Civic" while the sedan model was called the (Japanese: Civic Ferio) during the fifth to seventh generations. The sixth-generation sedan was also sold as the Integra SJ. In Europe and the United States, "Civic" generically refers to any model, though in Europe the coupe is branded the "Civic Coupe". A four-door station wagon model called the Civic Shuttle (also Civic Pro in Japan) was available from 1984 until 1991 (this brand name would later be revived for the mid-1990s Honda Shuttle people carrier, known in some markets as the Honda Stream). In South Africa, the sedan (the only model sold there until the 1996 launch of the sixth generation sedan and hatch) was known as the Ballade.

Other models have been built off the Civic platform, including CR-X, Quint, Concerto, Domani, CR-X Del Sol, Integra, and CR-V.

Also, at various times, the Civic or Civic-derived models have been sold by marques other than Honda — for example, Rover sold the 200, 400 and 45, each of which were Civic-based at some point (first 200s were the second generation Ballade; from 1990 the 200 and 400 were based on the Concerto; the 400 was the 1995 Domani), as was their predecessor, the Triumph Acclaim, based on the first Honda Ballade. The Honda Domani, an upscale model based on the Civic, was sold as the Isuzu Gemini in Japan (1992–2000), and confusingly the 5-door Domani was sold as the Honda Civic (along with the "real" hatchback and sedan Civics) in Europe from 1995 to 2000. In Thailand, the sixth generation Civic was available as the four-door Isuzu Vertex. The sixth-generation station wagon was sold as the Honda Orthia, with the Partner as the downmarket commercial variant. The seventh generation minivan model is called the Honda Stream. In Canada, the sixth and seventh generation Civics were mildly redesigned to create the Acura EL until the advent of the eight generation Civic, which was used to create the Acura CSX, which was designed in Canada. Honda Japan adopted the CSX styling for the Civic in its home country.

US Honda Civic Hybrid (gasoline-electric)

The three-door hatchback body style has been somewhat unpopular in the United States, but has achieved wide acceptance in Canada, as well as popularity in Japan and European markets, helping cement Honda's reputation as a maker of sporty compact models. Starting in 2002, the Civic three-door hatchback has been built exclusively at Honda's manufacturing plant in Swindon, England - previously the five-door "Civic"/Domani and the Civic Aerodeck (based on the Japanese Orthia) were built in this plant for sale in Europe along with the Japanese Civics. Accordingly, all instances of the current model (left or right hand drive, anywhere in the world) are British-made cars designed with Japanese engineering, except for the US-built two-door coupe and the sedan version built in Brazil for the Latin American market.

In North America, the Civic hatchback was dropped for 2006. The 2006 model year standard Civics for North America are manufactured in Alliston, Ontario, Canada (sedans, coupes and Si Coupes) and East Liberty, Ohio (sedans), while the Hybrid version is manufactured in Japan.

In Brazil, although being considered for local manufacturing since the early 1980s (it was illegal to import cars in Brazil from 1973 until 1990), the Civic wasn't available until 1992, via official importing. In 1997, production of the sixth generation Civic sedan started in the Sumaré (a city near Campinas, in the state of São Paulo) factory. The only differences between the Japanese model and the Brazilian model were a slightly higher ground clearance, due to the country's road conditions and adaptations to make the engine suitable to Brazilian commercial gasoline, which contains about 25% ethanol (E25). The seventh generation production started in 2001, displacing the Chevrolet Vectra from the top sales record for the mid-size sedan segment, however it lost that position to the Toyota Corolla the following year. In 2006, the eighth generation was released and regained the sales leadership. Identical to the North American version, it lacks options such a moonroof, and standard security equipment like VSA and side and curtain airbags were removed due to lack of car safety laws in the Mercosur. Furthermore, the Brazilian subsidiary began producing flex-fuel versions for the Civic and the Fit models, capable of running on any blend of gasoline (E20 to E25 blend in Brazil) and ethanol up to E100.
